Even though the Horizon Hawks scored an imposing 62 points on Tuesday, the Broomfield Eagles still came out on top. Broomfield took their matchup against Horizon 70-62. Given Broomfield's advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 22nd, while Horizon is ranked 108th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Broomfield was led to victory by Shyya Martinez and Andrew Effland. Martinez dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten assists, while Effland scored 18 points along with two steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Blaes Kane, who scored 12 points.
Several Hawks players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Aiden Greene, who scored 16 points. Greene continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Brady Greene, who scored 12 points along with eight rebounds and two steals.
Broomfield pushed their record up to 8-2 with that win, which was their third straight at home. As for Horizon, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-6 record this season.
Broomfield will head out on the road to challenge Fort Collins at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Fort Collins has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 391 points over their last six games. As for Horizon, they will be playing at home against Brighton at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
