This season hasn't been kind to the Colonial Christian Cougars, who are still winless after their fifth game. They were the victim of a rough 65-43 loss at the hands of Calvary Christian on Tuesday. Colonial Christian was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Calvary Christian apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in November of 2022.
Colonial Christian lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Clayton Gannon, who scored 22 points along with two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Gannon has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Gabe Taylor, who scored five points along with two steals.
Colonial Christian struggled to work together and finished the game with only three assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Calvary Christian racked up 12 assists.
Leading Calvary Christian to victory were Josiah Obando and Braeden Pero. Obando dropped a double-double on 11 points and ten rebounds, while Pero scored 17 points along with five rebounds and five steals. Pero is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last four games he's played. Jeffrey Coy was another key contributor, scoring five points.
Colonial Christian bumped their record down to 0-5 with that defeat, which was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Calvary Christian, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 9-5.
Colonial Christian will be playing in front of their home fans against Crosspointe Christian Academy at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Crosspointe Christian Academy focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 19 on Friday. As for Calvary Christian, they will take on Tournament Opponent at TBD on Friday.
