Leo is 8-2 against Fort Wayne Blackhawk Christian since April of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Saturday. The Lions will face off against the Braves at 10:00 a.m. Leo is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.6 runs per game this season.
On Thursday, Leo made easy work of New Haven and carried off an 18-3 win. The Lions haven't had any issues with the Bulldogs recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.
Landon Slattery looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Alex Robison, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Luke MacDonald, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI and one double.
Leo hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least three batters in six consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Fort Wayne Blackhawk Christian had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-2 win over the Bruins. While the Braves didn't have the best season last year (they finished 7-11), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
Max Warner made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Warner was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
In other pitching news, Jonathon Scheumann looked comfortable as he tossed 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.
Warner wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Kyler Wood, who went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
Leo's victory was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 10-1. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.1 runs over those games. As for Fort Wayne Blackhawk Christian, their record is now 9-4.
Fort Wayne Blackhawk Christian's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Leo hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .338. It's a different story for Fort Wayne Blackhawk Christian, though, as they've only averaged .244. Will they be able to contain Leo's hitters?
Leo took their victory against Fort Wayne Blackhawk Christian when the teams last played back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 15-3 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Lions since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
