The Cyprus Pirates will head out to challenge the Stansbury Stallions at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. Cyprus is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.2 runs per game this season.
Cyprus fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Orem two weeks ago but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Tigers by a score of 5-4.
Nick Griffel was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and one stolen base. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played.
Meanwhile, Stansbury waltzed into their matchup on Friday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Lancers 4-2.
Karmine Gallegos looked comfortable as he tossed 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.
At the plate, Cooper Clark was excellent, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 3-for-3. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Miles Olsen, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
Stansbury's win was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-3. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games. As for Cyprus, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-2.
Monday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Cyprus hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .313. However, it's not like Stansbury struggles in that department as they've averaged .321. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Cyprus came up short against Stansbury in their previous meeting back in April of 2023, falling 7-4. Can Cyprus avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
