The Lincoln Cougars will square off against the Frankfort Falcons at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Lincoln is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.6 runs per game this season.
Lincoln couldn't beat St. Marys on Friday even though they stacked five runs on them in the fourth inning. The Cougars took a 10-6 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Blue Devils. The Cougars have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Riley Pearlman was cooking despite her team's loss, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run. Kerstyn Leggett was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two RBI and one run.
Meanwhile, Frankfort put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They never let Robert C. Byrd get on the board and left with a 15-0 victory. Considering the Falcons have won eight matches by more than seven runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Avery Noel was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 13 over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
In other batting news, Frankfort got a massive performance out of Tayler Likens, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three stolen bases, and four runs. Another player making a difference was Rylee Mangold, who went 3-for-4 with three doubles, four RBI, and one stolen base.
Frankfort hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least three batters in five consecutive games.
Frankfort's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-0. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.0 runs over those games. As for Lincoln, their loss dropped their record down to 9-5.
Saturday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Lincoln hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .369. However, it's not like Frankfort struggles in that department as they've averaged .471. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Lincoln came up short against Frankfort in their previous matchup back in April of 2019, falling 4-0. Can the Cougars avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
