McCall-Donnelly hasn't had much luck against New Plymouth recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. The Vandals are taking a road trip to take on the Pilgrims at 12:00 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
Having struggled with three defeats in a row, McCall-Donnelly turned things around against Fruitland on Wednesday. They were the clear victors by a 19-6 margin over the Grizzlies. The Vandals not only won on Wednesday, but they posted their biggest win since April 15, 2024.

Ceder Saxton made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over six innings while giving up four earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. Those ten strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.
In other batting news, McCall-Donnelly got a massive performance out of Jill Thomas, who went 3-for-5 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those four RBI gave Thomas a new career-high. Sailor Hartley was another key player, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with one home run, four RBI, and two runs.
McCall-Donnelly kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, New Plymouth entered their tilt with Melba on Wednesday with three consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with four. They had just enough and edged out the Mustangs 13-11. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Pilgrims have posted since March 21st.
Like McCall-Donnelly, New Plymouth also got a great game from a two-way player: Makiah Weideman. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over 5.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off five hits. Weideman has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs.
In other batting news, Averi Albisu was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing three bases while going 3-for-4. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Lauren Ferreira, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3.
McCall-Donnelly's win was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-5 and their overall record up to 2-13. As for New Plymouth, their record now sits at 13-4.
McCall-Donnelly suffered a grim 18-3 defeat to New Plymouth in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. Can the Vandals avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
