Given Decatur Central's advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 69th, while Greenwood is ranked 249th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Decatur Central had a senior duo take command as Ayden Lawson scored 14 points along with nine rebounds and Kc Berry scored 15 points along with six rebounds and three steals. Berry has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last six times he's played. Another player making a difference was Melakih Cunningham, who scored seven points along with six rebounds and two steals.
Greenwood lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Ethan King, who scored 13 points. John Ollanketo was another key contributor, scoring nine points.
Decatur Central's win bumped their record up to 8-4. As for Greenwood, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-11 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Decatur Central will square off against Avon at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Avon is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 56.4 points per game. Greenwood will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against Perry Meridian at 7:30 p.m. on January 26th.
