This season hasn't been kind to the Swallows Charter Academy Spartans, who are still winless after their seventh contest. They received a tough blow on Tuesday as they fell 42-27 to Pueblo Centennial. Swallows Charter Academy was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Pueblo Centennial apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January of 2023.
When it comes to explaining why Swallows Charter Academy lost, one person who can't be blamed is Faith DeRudder. Despite the final result, she almost dropped a triple-double on nine points, ten rebounds, and 17 blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Roni Dziuba, who scored 12 points along with seven rebounds and two steals.
Even though they lost, Swallows Charter Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Pueblo Centennial got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Mariah Hogue out in front who scored five points along with six steals. Another player making a difference was Nina Orta, who scored 14 points along with two steals.
Swallows Charter Academy's defeat was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 0-7. As for Pueblo Centennial, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-5.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Swallows Charter Academy will play host again and welcome Kiowa, where tip off is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on Friday. Kiowa is coming into the game on a three-game losing streak. Pueblo Centennial won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Manitou Springs at 6:00 p.m. on January 10th.
