The Mills Vikings will face off against the Westmont Warriors at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The timing is sure in Mills' favor as the team sits on 14 straight wins at home (dating back to last season) while Westmont has been banged up by four consecutive losses on the road.
Mills is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Everything went their way against Aragon on Tuesday as they made off with a 25-11 victory. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Vikings considering their two-run performance the game before.
Lucy Esquivel was incredible, going 5-for-6 with six RBI, two triples, and three runs. Those two triples gave her a new career-high. Elise Jang was another key player, getting on base in all six of her plate appearances with four runs, one triple, and two RBI.
Mills always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .706. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Aragon only posted an OBP of .457.
Meanwhile, Westmont lost 13-5 to Notre Dame on Saturday.
Westmont saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Sophia Burich, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one double. Another was Marina Li, who got on base in two of her three plate appearances with one run and one RBI.
Westmont's loss dropped their record down to 5-12. As for Mills, their win was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 6-3.
Westmont's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Mills has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 11 hits per game. It's a different story for Westmont, though, as they've been averaging 9 hits. Given Mills' sizable advantage in that area, the Warriors will need to find a way to close that gap.
Mills got the 'W' in their previous meeting back in February of 2025 against Westmont by a conclusive 8-1 score. Will the Vikings repeat their success, or do the Warriors have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
