Football Recap: Fairfield Central Takes a Tough Playoff Loss

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Fairfield Central can now relate to. They fell 32-21 to the Clinton Red Devils on Friday. The Griffins' loss signaled the end of their 12-game winning streak.

Despite the loss, Fairfield Central still got an impressive performance from Kaden Diggs, who rushed for 90 yards and one touchdown. Those 90 rushing yards gave Diggs a new career-high.

Diggs was just one part of a punishing run game: Fairfield Central was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 305 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 187 rushing yards in 13 consecutive games.

It was another big night for Tushawan Richardson, who rushed for 102 yards and one touchdown on only eight carries, and also threw for 104 yards and two touchdowns on only five passes for Clinton. Backing up that air attack was Rhett Gilliam, who rushed for 109 yards and a rushing touchdown.

Fairfield Central's defeat ended a seven-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 12-2. As for Clinton, the victory (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 11-2.

Fairfield Central does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Clinton has also already played their next contest, a 35-6 win against Barnwell on the 12th.
