Morrison is 1-9 against Riverdale since April of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Mustangs will be playing at home against the Rams at 4:30 p.m. Morrison has given up an average of 7 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Morrison is headed into Thursday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Saturday. They lost 14-4 to Warren.
Morrison saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Collin Renkes, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Riverdale, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Saturday. They had just enough and edged out Sterling 8-6. The win was some much needed relief for the Rams as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.
Landen Peterson made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Peterson was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-4. He also hit a double, marking his first of the season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Colton Huffman, who went 1-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. AJ Scranton also deserves some recognition as he scored his first runs of the season.
The victory got Riverdale back to even at 3-3. As for Morrison, their loss dropped their record down to 2-5.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Morrison has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.9 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Riverdale struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Morrison might still be hurting after the 12-0 defeat they got from Riverdale in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Mustangs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
