Widefield has gone a perfect 3-0 against Doherty recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Gladiators will be playing in front of their home fans against the Spartans at 3:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Widefield has seven straight wins, Doherty has 12 straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
On Saturday, Widefield earned a 12-7 victory over Canon City.
Olivia McEwen was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over seven innings while giving up seven earned runs off ten hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs.

Pueblo East hit Doherty with a six-run fourth inning on Saturday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Spartans came up short against the Eagles, falling 17-11. Even if the Spartans couldn't come away with the win, the high-scoring effort was a great turnaround for their hitters, which had struggled int the games prior.
Maddie Schiltz led a balanced group of hitters, going 3-for-5 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. The team also got some help courtesy of Cayla Baker, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Widefield's victory bumped their record up to 16-2-1. As for Doherty, their loss dropped their record down to 1-16.
Doherty's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Widefield has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 11.7 hits per game. It's a different story for Doherty, though, as they've been averaging 11.2 hits. Given Widefield's sizable advantage in that area, the Spartans will need to find a way to close that gap.
Widefield took their win against Doherty when the teams last played back in August of 2024 by a conclusive 13-3 score. Do the Gladiators have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Spartans turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
