The Mio-Au Sable Thunderbolts will head out on the road to square off against the Alcona Tigers at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Both teams come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
In what's become a running theme this season, Mio-Au Sable gave their fans yet another huge victory last Monday. They blew past Fairview 53-33. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Mio-Au Sable.
Even though Alcona has not done well against Oscoda recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. Alcona walked away with a 47-36 victory over Oscoda.
Alcona's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Garrett Somers, who scored 18 points along with nine steals and six rebounds. Somers hasn't dropped below two steals for eight straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Evan Borsvold, who scored nine points along with 13 rebounds.
The victory got Mio-Au Sable back to even at 4-4. As for Alcona, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matches, which provided a massive bump to their 8-4 record this season.
Mio-Au Sable beat Alcona 44-36 in their previous meeting back in February of 2023. The rematch might be a little tougher for Mio-Au Sable since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
