After a string of four wins, the United Longhorns's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They took a 61-48 hit to the loss column at the hands of United South. The result was an unpleasant reminder to United of the 54-51 defeat they experienced in the two teams' previous head-to-head fixture on January 5th.
United's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jesslynn Jalomo, who scored 28 points along with five rebounds and two steals. That was a full 58.3% of United's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Emily Escamilla was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with eight rebounds and two steals.
United's defeat ended a ten-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 22-9. As for United South, they are on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 matches, which provided a massive bump to their 17-8 record this season.
Coincidentally, the pair will both be playing Del Rio the next time they take the court. United South will head out to face Del Rio at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, while United will host them at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
