The Belfry Pirates waltzed into their matchup on Friday with three straight wins but they left with four. They blew past Hurley 60-23 on the road. Given Belfry's advantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 157th in Kentucky, while Hurley is ranked 387th in Virginia), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Jaaliyah Warren, who almost dropped a double-double on 24 points and nine assists. She has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last seven times she's played. Jenna Sparks was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 11 points and 11 rebounds.
Belfry is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 10-12 record this season. As for Hurley, they are on an eight-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-18.
Belfry will be playing at home against Betsy Layne at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Hopefully Belfry focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 11 on Friday. Hurley does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
