It was a good run, but the Luther Cougars unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Saturday. They took a 70-58 hit to the loss column at the hands of Portledge. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Luther in their matchups with Portledge: they've now lost seven in a row.
Gavin Hugine and Tristan Elcock certainly did their best on Saturday to try and avoid the loss. Hugine scored 23 points along with seven rebounds, while Elcock scored ten points along with nine rebounds and seven steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Justin Trail, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 12 rebounds.
Luther's loss dropped their record down to 9-8. As for Portledge, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 2-0.
Luther will look to defend their home court on Monday against Stony Brook at 6:00 p.m. Portledge won't have much time to rest: their next game is against St. Anthony's at 5:15 p.m. on January 21st. Hopefully St. Anthony's focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up ten last Friday.
