Independence is 8-2 against Brooklyn since April of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Blue Devils will head out on the road to challenge the Hurricanes at 4:30 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Independence has three straight wins, Brooklyn has seven straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Independence barely beat Lutheran West the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Blue Devils put the hurt on the Longhorns with a sharp 10-4 victory on Thursday. The result was nothing new for the Blue Devils, who have now won seven matchups by six runs or more so far this season.
Kaden Schuette spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on five hits and racked up seven Ks. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Anderson Jolliffe was a standout: he went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Anthony Sobonya, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.
Independence always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .529. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lutheran West only posted an OBP of .333.
Meanwhile, Brooklyn came up short against Cuyahoga Heights on Tuesday and fell 8-3.
Brooklyn saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Dominic Riccardi, who went 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI.
Independence's win bumped their record up to 10-3. As for Brooklyn, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-9.
Monday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Independence has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .463. However, it's not like Brooklyn struggles in that department as they've averaged .440. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Independence's way against Brooklyn when the teams last played back in April of 2025, as Independence made off with a 19-2 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Blue Devils since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
