If the Tucker County Mountain Lions were riding high off their 74-34 takedown of the Frankfort Falcons on Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Tucker County fell just short of Hurricane by a score of 41-39. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Tucker County has scored all season.
Tucker County's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Raven Matthews, who scored six points along with 15 rebounds. Matthews is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Brylee Wetzel, who scored ten points.
Hurricane's win on Friday was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Alexandra Andrerson, who scored 17 points. That makes it four consecutive games in which Andrerson has scored at least 25% of Hurricane's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Taylor Manley, who scored eight points along with three steals.
Tucker County's loss dropped their record down to 5-2. As for Hurricane, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 6-3.
Tucker County and Moorefield will face off at 7:00 p.m. on January 5th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in West Virginia (Moorefield is ranked 56th, while Tucker County is ranked 49th). Hurricane is on the road again on Wednesday and play against Riverside at 7:00 p.m. on January 3rd. Hopefully Riverside focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 21 on Friday.
