Colony is 8-2 against Lathrop since May of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Saturday. The Knights will be playing in front of their home fans against the Malemutes at 10:00 a.m. The timing is sure in Colony's favor as the squad sits on nine straight wins at home while Lathrop has been banged up by three consecutive losses on the road.
On Friday, Colony got the win against West Valley by a conclusive 13-1. Considering the Knights have won 14 contests by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Alexis Congdon and Alesha Crowther did most of the damage at the plate: Congdon went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double, while Crowther got on base in all three of her plate appearances with three RBI, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Morgan Gallagher, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI.
Colony was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .421. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .357 or higher in nine consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Lathrop faced Wasilla in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Malemutes came up short against the Warriors, falling 14-2. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Lathrop saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kaylee Himes, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI and one double. That double marked the first that Himes has hit this season.
Colony has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 20-5-1 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Lathrop, their loss dropped their record down to 1-5.
Saturday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Colony hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .421. However, it's not like Lathrop struggles in that department as they've averaged .330. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Colony took their victory against Lathrop in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 11-5 score. Will the Knights repeat their success, or do the Malemutes have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
