The Jefferson Wildcats gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Friday. They came out on top against St. John's by a score of 53-46. Given Jefferson's advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 66th, while St. John's is ranked 351st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Lyv Lindeman was on fire: she dropped a double-double on 35 points and 13 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Lauren French, who dropped a double-double on 10 points and 11 rebounds.
Several Bluejays players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Abby Kerner, who scored 14 points along with 7 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Emma Will, who scored 16 points.
Even though they lost, St. John's were working as a unit and finished the game with 13 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Jefferson only posted three.
Jefferson's win bumped their record up to 1-0. As for St. John's, their loss dropped their record down to 0-1.
Jefferson will head out on the road to face off against New Bremen at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for St. John's, they will be playing at home against Spencerville at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
