Wakulla is 8-1 against St. John Paul II since December of 2015, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. Hopefully Wakulla focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 33 on Thursday.
On Thursday, Wakulla was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 55-50 to Gadsden County. Wakulla has not had much luck with Gadsden County recently, as the team's come up short the last four times they've met.
Wakulla's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Kyendra Thomas, who scored 19 points along with seven rebounds and seven steals, and Amariyah Donaldson who scored six points along with ten rebounds and three blocks. Thomas is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Xzaveria Robinson was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with eight rebounds and two steals.
Even though St. John Paul II has not done well against Franklin County recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. St. John Paul II secured a 38-33 W over Franklin County. The victory was a breath of fresh air for St. John Paul II as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead St. John Paul II to victory, but perhaps none more so than Aliyah Medrano, who scored ten points along with eight rebounds and two steals. Medrano hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games. Another player making a difference was Blakely Naumann, who scored seven points along with five rebounds.
Wakulla has not been sharp recently, as they've lost eight of their last ten contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-10 record this season. As for St. John Paul II, their victory bumped their record up to 4-8.
Wakulla was able to grind out a solid victory over St. John Paul II in their previous matchup on Friday, winning 48-39. The rematch might be a little tougher for Wakulla since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
