Make it eight blowout wins for the Falls Lake Firebirds this season. They claimed a resounding 59-32 victory over East Wake Academy on the road. Given Falls Lake's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 108th, while the Eagles are ranked 491st), the result on Tuesday wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Emerson Thompson, who almost dropped a triple-double on 19 points, 13 rebounds, and nine assists. Thompson is crushing the rebound category: she's posted at least ten every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Madison Oakley, who scored 12 points.
Leila Gonzalez and Emma Roche certainly did their best on Tuesday to avoid the loss. Gonzalez scored 17 points along with two steals, while Roche scored seven points along with six rebounds and six blocks. Roche is on a roll when it comes to blocks, as she's now posted two or more in the last three games she's played.
Falls Lake pushed their record up to 20-2 with that victory, which was their 22nd straight on the road dating back to last season. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.3 points per game. As for East Wake Academy, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-9.
