Winning is just a little bit easier when your three-point shooting is a whole 21% better than the opposition, a fact the St. Petersburg Catholic Barons proved on Saturday. They walked away with a 33-22 win over Hollins. The victory made it back-to-back wins for St. Petersburg Catholic.
St. Petersburg Catholic was led to victory by Elise Graham and Naomi Thompson. Graham scored 11 points along with three steals, while Thompson scored eight points along with 12 rebounds and three blocks. Graham has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times she's played. Jaidon Jones was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Despite the defeat, Hollins saw an underclassman step up: Jaeci Burney scored five points along with five rebounds and two steals. Another player making a difference was Rebecka Williams, who scored eight points along with two steals.
The victory got St. Petersburg Catholic back to even at 8-8. As for Hollins, their loss dropped their record down to 2-9.
St. Petersburg Catholic will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Largo at 6:30 p.m. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Florida (Largo is ranked 315th, while St. Petersburg Catholic is ranked 328th). As for Hollins, they will head out on the road to challenge St. Petersburg at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully St. Petersburg focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 last Thursday.
