WPIAL AAA Big Nine recap September 10, 2013
Thomas Jefferson's Chase Winovich rumbled for the longest rushing play in WPIAL AAA Big Nine this season in his game against Elizabeth Forward last week. Winovich scampered for 4 yards on the play and finished with 3 on the day as his team beat the Warriors.
Belle Vernon scaled the state rankings by moving to 255 from 285 this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Leopards were able to make move up by falling to West Mifflin 41-6.
Ringgold's dynamic duo of Nico Law and Alan Pritchett proved to be unstoppable against Laurel Highlands, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Law threw for 96 yards and 2 touchdowns and Pritchett had 64 yards receiving. Luke Baldesberger helped Ringgold's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 20 yards.
The Rams' dynamic duo of Law and Pritchett proved tough for the Mustangs to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week.
Pritchett was the best wideout in the league this week as Ringgold bested Laurel Highlands.
James Wheeler was the most successful running back in WPIAL AAA Big Nine this week. In 27 carries, he ran for 189 yards as the Titans beat Zack Just's team. Teammate Jon Green added to the ground attack by rushing for 53 yards.
Law put up the best numbers through the air as the Rams topped the Mustangs.
6-foot-1 quarterback Law of Ringgold is the league leader in passing yards this season with 212. He has also thrown 3 touchdowns. The leading receiver in the league this season is Kevin Garbark. The West Mifflin star has 3 catches for 158 yards.
An important game coming up in the league this week will be when Uniontown takes on West Mifflin. At the moment, the Red Raiders are in third, while Ray Braszo's team is in first.
The Rams were the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from eighth to fourth in the league. Ringgold defeated Laurel Highlands 57-14 earlier in the week.
