St. Martin is 2-8 against East Central since February of 2020 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. It'll be a Battle of the Bugs St. Martin Yellow Jackets challenge East Central Hornets at 6:30 p.m. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
St. Martin headed into their last game having not scored more than two runs for three straight, but Gulfport let them put that streak behind them. St. Martin narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Gulfport 18-16. While the Yellow Jackets didn't have the best season last year (they finished 6-16), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

St. Martin got a massive performance out of Madalynn Broussard, who went 4-for-5 with three runs, three doubles, and three RBI. Those four hits gave Broussard a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Natalie Shoemaker, who went 3-for-5 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs.
Broussard wasn't the only one working in the hit department: St. Martin kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 23 hits. St. Martin is a perfect 3-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, East Central faced George County in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. East Central never let George County get on the board and left with a 5-0 win. Winning may never get old, but the Hornets sure are getting used to it with their fifth in a row.
The result came thanks to Breyona Tanner's shutout, as she gave up just five hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Lizzy Kennedy was incredible, firing off two home runs and four RBI while going 2-for-3.
With the victory, St. Martin broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 7-5. As for East Central, their record is now 11-4.
St. Martin skirted past East Central 5-3 when the teams last played back in February. The rematch might be a little tougher for St. Martin since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
