Clear Creek and Platte Canyon are an even 3-3 against one another since April of 2015, but likely not for long. The Golddiggers will be playing in front of their home fans against the Huskies at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
Clear Creek took a loss when they played away from home on Thursday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Saturday. They walked away with a 12-7 win over Ellicott.
Zephyr Schuessler was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing five innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Blake Weichel, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Clear Creek's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 3-7 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Caden McKown, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI and two runs.
Clear Creek kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, Platte Canyon came into Friday's match having lost three straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They blew past South Park 13-4 on Friday.
Jacob Haase and Braylon Spodyak did most of the damage at the plate: Haase got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and three RBI, while Spodyak went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four runs, and two stolen bases. The dominant performance also gave Haase a new career-high in hits (two). Jerod Horta was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.
Platte Canyon picked up their first road victory, bumping their record up to 4-12. As for Clear Creek, their win bumped their record up to 6-7.
Monday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Clear Creek has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .453. However, it's not like Platte Canyon struggles in that department as they've averaged .457. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Clear Creek came out on top in a nail-biter against Platte Canyon when the teams last played back in May of 2022, sneaking past 14-13. Do the Golddiggers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Huskies turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
