The Wakefield Warriors will head out on the road to take on the George C. Marshall Statesmen at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. George C. Marshall took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Wakefield, who comes in off a win.
Wakefield took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. They came out on top against Alexandria City by a score of 13-8. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Warriors' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.
Regan Hughes was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out seven over four innings pitched. Hughes was also big at the plate, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with two runs.
In other batting news, Wakefield got a massive performance out of Tatum Oliver, who went 1-for-2 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Hannah Nilame was another key player, going 2-for-4 with four RBI and one double.
Wakefield always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .585. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
George C. Marshall might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 7-6 to Herndon, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. The Statesmen have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Taylor Devanney was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last five games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Mikka Christensen, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double.
Wakefield moved to 5-4 with that win, which also ended their three-game losing streak. As for George C. Marshall, their loss dropped their record down to 5-7.
Everything went Wakefield's way against George C. Marshall in their previous meeting back in March, as Wakefield made off with an 11-1 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Warriors since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
