Falmouth and South Portland are an even 5-5 against one another since June of 2016, but likely not for long. The Navigators will be playing at home against the Red Riots at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The last three games Falmouth has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
While Falmouth's win against Noble wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Navigators came out on top against the Knights on Saturday by a score of 1-0 (the very same score they lost by in their prior game). The victory continues a trend for the Navigators in their matchups with the Knights: they've now won four in a row.
The team relied heavily on Tyler Simmons, who went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2024. Caden Berry also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Meanwhile, South Portland entered their tilt with Windham on Saturday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Eagles a 10-0 shutout. The Red Riots might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four games by six runs or more this season.
Shea Healy looked comfortable as he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits.
On the hitting side, Hudson Iacuessa was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Jude Charltray was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
South Portland always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .517. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
South Portland pushed their record up to 7-1 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.2 runs on average over those games. As for Falmouth, the win got them back to even at 4-4-1.
Everything went Falmouth's way against South Portland in their previous meeting back in June of 2024, as Falmouth made off with a 19-12 victory. Will the Navigators repeat their success, or do the Red Riots have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
