The Boyd Christian Broncos and the DeLand Bulldogs will face off at 3:35 p.m. on December 27th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Boyd Christian had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 19 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Tuesday. They breezed by Lancaster Christian Academy on the road to the tune of 62-17. With Boyd Christian ahead 35-10 at the half, the match was all but over already.
Katie Bechtel and Brooke Kesey were among the main playmakers for Boyd Christian as the former scored 14 points along with five rebounds and the latter scored 24 points. That makes it three consecutive games in which Kesey has scored at least 25% of Boyd Christian's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Macie Bush, who scored 11 points along with four steals.
Meanwhile, DeLand waltzed into their game last Friday with two straight wins but they left with three. They claimed a resounding 59-29 victory over Father Lopez at home. Given DeLand's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 155th, while Father Lopez is ranked 405th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Boyd Christian has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 10-7 record this season. As for DeLand, they pushed their record up to 7-1 with that victory, which was their fifth straight at home.
