Baseball Recap: Luverne Now 7-1 over Last Eight Games

Luverne barely beat St. James the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Cardinals put the hurt on the Saints with a sharp 8-1 win on Thursday. The Cardinals might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten matches by seven runs or more this season.

Blake Sauer made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out six over five innings pitched. Those six strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with two RBI and one run.

In other batting news, Carter Sehr was a standout: he went 3-for-4 with three runs, three doubles, and three RBI. Those three doubles gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jaxon Lais, who went 1-for-3 with one home run, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Luverne has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for St. James, their loss was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 6-1 and their overall record down to 7-3.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Luverne will face off against Windom at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for St. James, they will take on Martin County West at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
