Given Sunnyside's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 234th, while Sanger West is ranked 1012th), the result on Thursday wasn't entirely unexpected.
Malachi Barnes continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 22 points. He continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was DJ Johnson, who scored 14 points.
Despite the defeat, Sanger West had strong showings from Noah Maldonado, who scored ten points along with two steals, and Angad Doad, who scored ten points along with six rebounds. Anthony Pineida was another key contributor, scoring three points along with three steals.
Sunnyside has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 22-5 record this season. As for Sanger West, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 10-18.
