Madison Jones spent all nine innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on eight hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Kamryn Johnson was excellent, going 3-for-4 with two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Makenna Whitley, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-4.
Johnson wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Roanoke Rapids kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Halifax Academy only managed six hits.
Meanwhile, after only one run in their last game, Northern Nash made sure to put some runs up on the board against Fike on Monday. Everything went Northern Nash's way against Fike as Northern Nash made off with a 13-3 win. The Knights might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four matchups by ten runs or more this season.
Kasey Burden was a major factor no matter where she played. She pitched five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off eight hits. Burden was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing Two bases. while getting on base in two of her three plate appearances.
In other batting news, Northern Nash let Kailey Burden and Hayley Moss run wild. Burden scored three runs and stole Two bases. while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances, while Moss scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Emma Hunt, who scored two runs while going 1-for-2.
Northern Nash is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 4-2 record this season. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 14.3 runs. Roanoke Rapids' victory bumped their record up to 3-1.
Northern Nash's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Roanoke Rapids has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.2 hits per game. It's a different story for Northern Nash, though, as they've been averaging 9.2 hits. Given Roanoke Rapids' sizable advantage in that area, Northern Nash will need to find a way to close that gap.
Roanoke Rapids took their win against Northern Nash in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 11-1. Will Roanoke Rapids repeat their success, or does Northern Nash have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
