Softball Recap: Saguaro Wins Going Away Against Maricopa

Saguaro not only won on Saturday, but they posted their biggest win since April 24, 2024. They put the hurt on the Maricopa Rams with a sharp 9-2 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Sabercats.

Alexa Simpson was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off one hit. Simpson was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-4. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, Lainey Paul was excellent, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That triple marked the first that she hit this season. Another player making a difference was Hailey Holliday, who scored a run while going 3-for-4.

Saguaro always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .548. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive contests.

Saguaro's record now sits at 3-6. As for Maricopa, their loss dropped their record down to 6-5-1.

The future could be bright for both Saguaro and Maricopa: their next opponents haven't had the best luck recently. Saguaro will try to hand Cholla their fourth-straight defeat when the two meet at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Maricopa will look to extend Flowing Wells' three-game losing streak when they meet at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
