Lakewood (Ohio) lost to
Midview (Grafton, Ohio), 24-7.
After taking the lead on a field goal by
Brendan Matchum in the second quarter, the Middies led 10-7 at the half.
Midview expanded its lead to 10 points entering the fourth quarter. MHS scored once in the quarter on a touchdown pass by
Cody Callaway to
Eric Lauer.
The Grafton school's standout player in the win was Lauer. The junior wide receiver threw one touchdown and caught one touchdown. He has now scored 13 touchdowns on the season.
The Rangers' lone touchdown came on a 7-yard pass in the second quarter.
The Middies had given up an average of 15.6 points prior to the contest.
The loss comes after Lakewood defeated Bay 24-8 last week. The victory was a step in the right direction for Midview, which was coming off a 28-0 defeat at the hands of Avon in its previous game.
In a West Shore game next week Lakewood (3-5) takes on Vermilion, and Midview (7-1) will go up against Elyria Catholic also in a West Shore game.
