Softball Recap: Hondo Sets Scoring Season-High Against Junction

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Hondo). They were the clear victor by a 17-2 margin over the Junction Eagles on Saturday. With that victory, the Owls brought their scoring average up to 6.9 runs per game.

Rebecca Rubio looked comfortable as she pitched four innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits.

At the plate, Hondo got a massive performance out of Miya Lathe, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. The dominant performance also gave Lathe a new career-high in hits (three). Ainsley Bohlen was another key player, scoring four runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4.

Hondo always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .688. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Hondo's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 5-6. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Junction, their loss dropped their record down to 2-10.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Hondo will welcome Sabinal at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hondo will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each game than the last. We've got a battle between Eagles coming up. Junction has given up an average of 12 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
