The Hillcrest Jaguars suffered their biggest loss since December 19, 2023 on Friday. They were beaten by Blount 55-27. Hillcrest was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 36-10.
Despite the loss, Hillcrest still got an impressive performance from Arreon "Tweety" Lopez, who scored 12 points.
Hillcrest struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only three offensive rebounds. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Blount pulled down 18 offensive rebounds.
Donniya Torrey was her usual excellent self, scoring 20 points along with seven steals and six rebounds for Blount. Torrey has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Heaven Watlington, who scored 12 points along with seven rebounds.
Hillcrest has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-12 record this season. As for Blount, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 16-10.
Hillcrest will stay at home for another game and welcome Thomasville at 6:00 p.m. on January 23rd. Thomasville is hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses. As for Blount, they will head out on the road to challenge Saraland at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Alabama (Saraland is ranked 140th, while Blount is ranked 120th).
