Citrus has gone 7-1 against Tavares recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Citrus Hurricanes will look to defend their home field against the Tavares Bulldogs at 6:00 p.m. Citrus is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.4 runs per game this season.
Citrus gave up the first runs on Tuesday, but they didn't let that get them down. They were the clear victor by a 10-4 margin over Lecanto. The game was the first time the Hurricanes have beaten the Panthers on their field since March 2, 2022.
Paisley Williamson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned runs on three hits.
At the plate, Baylie Goodwin was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing Two bases. while going 3-for-4. Another player making a difference was Makayla Hetman, who scored two runs while going 1-for-4.
Goodwin wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Citrus kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in four consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Tavares waltzed into their match on Tuesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They walked away with a 7-3 win over Mount Dora Christian Academy. Surprisingly, this marked the fourth straight game that the away team has come away the victor.
Tavares also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Emersyn Lee gave up only one earned (and two unearned) runs on four hits and racked up ten Ks. Lee has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Jasmine Lawrence, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Blakely Kite was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
Citrus' victory bumped their record up to 6-4. As for Tavares, their win bumped their record up to 4-1.
Citrus came out on top in a nail-biter against Tavares in their previous matchup back in February, sneaking past 7-6. Will Citrus repeat their success, or does Tavares have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
