Central Magnet is preparing for their first district matchup of the season on Tuesday. They will look to defend their home field against the Marshall County Tigers at 5:30 p.m. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Friday, it was close, but Central Magnet sidestepped Cannon County for an 8-7 victory. Central Magnet hasn't had any issues with Cannon County recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive win against them.
The team relied heavily on Sophia Croasdaile, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Megan Weber, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.
The home team had come away the winner the last five times Marshall County and Cornersville had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. Marshall County's pitcher stepped up to hand Cornersville a 10-0 shutout on Monday. The game was the first time the Tigers have beaten the Bulldogs on their field since March 14, 2022.
Not much got past Abby Leverette, who gave up just nine hits and racked up ten Ks to keep Cornersville off the board. Those ten strikeouts gave Leverette a new career-high.
At the plate, Kinley Wiser was a standout: she scored a run while going 2-for-4. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in doubles (two). Anna Stewart was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one home run and two runs.
Marshall County kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits every time they've taken the field this season.
Marshall County now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Central Magnet, their victory bumped their record up to 2-0.
