Greenwood is 0-4 against East Central since October of 2014 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Greenwood Woodmen will head out on the road to face off against the East Central Trojans at 7:00 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
You're bound to get a positive result if you outscore your opponent every quarter, and that's exactly how it played out for Greenwood on Friday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that they blew Jennings County out of the water with a 43-12 final score. Greenwood pushed the score to 35-6 by the end of the third, a deficit Jennings County had little chance of recovering from.
Greenwood can attribute much of their success to Brock Riddle, who threw for 217 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 10.9 yards per attempt, and Jackson Haessig, who rushed for 113 yards and two touchdowns on only five carries. Haessig's longest rush was for an incredible 76 yards. Amare Middleton did his part to keep the secondary busy, picking up 81 receiving yards.
Meanwhile, East Central put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They claimed a resounding 56-20 win over Martinsville on the road. The result was nothing new for East Central, who have now won ten matches by 34 points or more so far this season.
Josh Ringer was his usual excellent self, rushing for 325 yards and seven touchdowns while picking up 13.5 yards per carry. Ringer is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last 11 games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Ryan Brotherton, who gained 130 total yards and a touchdown.
The victory makes it two in a row for Greenwood and bumps their season record up to 6-5. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 2-8 Connersville and 5-6 Jennings County. As for East Central, their victory was their ninth straight on the road (dating back to last season), which bumped their overall record up to 11-0.
Keep an eye on the end zone in Friday's game as Greenwood and East Central haven't had much trouble getting there this season. Greenwood commands a daunting offense this season, having averaged 5.2 touchdowns per game. However, it's not like East Central struggles in that department as they've been even better at 7.2 per game. With these two high-octane teams facing off on Friday, fans should be in for an exciting offensive matchup.
Greenwood was dealt a bruising 44-14 loss at the hands of East Central when the teams last played back in October of 2021. Can Greenwood avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
