The South Warren Spartans will take on the Logan County Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
South Warren proved they can win big on Saturday (they won by nine) and on Monday they proved they can win the close ones too. They had just enough and edged out Adair County 6-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Spartans have posted since March 27th.
The team relied heavily on Jaxen Decker, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Brandon Perkins Jr., who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Logan County entered their tilt with Barren County on Friday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They never let the Trojans get on the board and left with a 2-0 win.
The result came thanks to Landon Gregory's shutout, as he gave up just four hits.
At the plate, Logan County saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Tate McLean, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one run and one double.
South Warren is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 23-7 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.4 runs over those games. As for Logan County, they pushed their record up to 19-9 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home.
South Warren's speedy runners might be the difference in Tuesday's contest. The Spartans have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.7 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Logan County, though, as they've been averaging only 1.1 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will South Warren continue to outrun the ball?
South Warren beat Logan County 11-8 in their previous meeting back in April. Do the Spartans have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Cougars turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
