Basketball Recap: Overton Now 14-2 over Last 16 Games

You can't lose the game if you win every quarter, and that was precisely Overton's strategy against Alto on Tuesday. The Overton Mustangs came out on top against the Alto Yellowjackets by a score of 60-49. The win was nothing new for the Mustangs as they're now sitting on four straight.

Leading Overton to victory were Rylan Holleman and Bryce Still. Holleman almost dropped a double-double on 24 points and nine rebounds, while Still posted 16 points in addition to six steals and five assists. That's the most steals Still has posted since back in December of 2024. Jayden Edwards was another key player, putting up eight points and three steals.

Overton is on a roll lately: they've won 14 of their last 16 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 18-5 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.8 points per game. As for Alto, their loss dropped their record down to 17-9.

Overton and Alto should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings. Overton (ranked 567th) will meet Mt. Enterprise (ranked 1446th) at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Overton will be looking to keep their seven-game home win streak alive. Similarly, Alto will square off against Carlisle at 7:30 p.m. on Friday up 860 places (767 vs. 1627). Overton is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 53.9 points per game this season.
