Westwood is 0-10 against Red Mountain since April of 2019 but things could change on Thursday. The Warriors will head out on the road to square off against the Mountain Lions at 6:30 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Red Mountain will be up against a hot Westwood team: the squad just extended their winning streak to three. The Warriors put the hurt on Valley Vista with a sharp 25-10 victory on Tuesday. The Warriors' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Westwood got a massive performance out of Lauren Cooper, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. The team also got some help courtesy of Navi Brinkerhoff, who got on base in all five of her plate appearances with three runs and four RBI.
Westwood always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .744. The last time their OBP was this high was back in February of 2024.
Meanwhile, while Red Mountain put up plenty of runs on Tuesday, the same can't be said for Mesa. The Mountain Lions blew past the Jackrabbits 14-0. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Mountain Lions.
Saige Peters and Kayla Jones did most of the damage at the plate: Peters scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4, while Jones went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Ava Richardson was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.
Red Mountain's win was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-4-1. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.4 runs over those games. As for Westwood, they now have a winning record of 11-10-1.
Thursday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Westwood hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .332. However, it's not like Red Mountain struggles in that department as they've averaged .404. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Westwood might still be hurting after the 11-0 defeat they got from Red Mountain when the teams last played two weeks ago. Can the Warriors avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
