This season hasn't been kind to the El Monte Lions, who are still winless after their 13th contest. They fell to Wilson 52-46. While losing is never fun, El Monte can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 1418th, while Wilson is ranked 608th).
Wilson was led to victory by Diego Burgara and Angel Montufar. Burgara scored 15 points, while Montufar scored 16 points. The match was Burgara's fourth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Jason Limias, who scored nine points along with three steals.
El Monte bumped their record down to 0-13 with that loss, which was their 17th straight at home dating back to last season. As for Wilson, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine matches, which provided a nice bump to their 12-5 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. El Monte will challenge Duarte at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Wilson will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Lincoln at 4:30 p.m. on January 10, 2024.
