The Gibbon Buffaloes struggled with offensive rebounds on Friday (the Fillmore Central Panthers had 13 more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Gibbon was outmatched by the Panthers at home and fell 54-23. Gibbon was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 28-6.
Gibbon's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Claire Clark, who scored five points along with three steals. Clark is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last four games she's played.
Fillmore Central got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Kaili Head out in front who scored 14 points along with five rebounds and two steals. Makenna Mccoy was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with five steals.
Gibbon has traveled a rocky road recently having lost seven of their last eight matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-13 record this season. As for Fillmore Central, their victory ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 3-14.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Gibbon will square off against the Rebels at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Arcadia/Loup City is coming into the matchup on a four-game losing streak. As for Fillmore Central, they will head out on the road to take on the Huskies at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Nebraska (Heartland is ranked 241st, while the Panthers are ranked 233rd).
