Basketball Recap: Bronaugh Falls Despite Big Games from Gabby Cox and Nellie Earnest

It was a proper cat-fight when Bronaugh duked it out withSheldon on Thursday. The Bronaugh Wildcats fell 40-33 to the Sheldon Panthers. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Wildcats of the 43-30 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in January.

Bronaugh's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Nellie Earnest, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 14 rebounds, and Gabby Cox, who posted seven points and three steals. With that strong performance, Earnest is now averaging an impressive 8.2 rebounds per game.

Even though they lost, Bronaugh smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in four consecutive matchups.

Mariam Lamb was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 14 points and 11 rebounds for Sheldon. That makes it six consecutive games in which Lamb has scored at least a third of Sheldon's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Tori Staudt, who earned six points along with six assists and five boards.

Bronaugh's defeat dropped their record down to 2-4. As for Sheldon, with the victory, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 3-3.

Bronaugh wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 44-26 win against Miami on the 13th. As for Sheldon, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 41-31 victory against Purdy on the 16th.
