After a string of five wins, the Rock Canyon Jaguars's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They fell just short of Horizon by a score of 59-57. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
When it comes to explaining why Rock Canyon lost, one person who can't be blamed is Sienna Pillsbury. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 20 points and 10 rebounds. Pillsbury is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last four games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Brooke Harding, who scored 11 points.
Even though they lost, Rock Canyon were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Horizon only pulled down four.
Horizon was led to victory by Morgan Ives and Kaitlin Schumann. Ives scored 18 points along with 5 assists, while Schumann scored 19 points along with 7 rebounds. The contest was Ives' third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Natalie Thornton, who scored 9 points along with 6 rebounds.
Rock Canyon's loss was their fourth straight at home, which bumped their record down to 5-1. As for Horizon, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-1.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Rock Canyon will take on Chatfield at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Chatfield focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up ten last Thursday. As for Horizon, they will be playing at home against Castle View at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
