The Immanuel Christian Warriors had to endure a 12-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Wakefield School on Friday and snuck past 24-21. The victory was all the more spectacular given Immanuel Christian's disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 393rd, while the Fighting Owls are ranked 158th).
Wakefield School's loss came despite strong showings from Aya Mason and Ceci Turner. Mason scored eight points along with 12 rebounds and three steals, while Turner scored three points along with seven steals and five assists. Mason is crushing the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season.
Immanuel Christian's victory ended a five-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-12. As for Wakefield School, their defeat ended a six-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 13-1.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Immanuel Christian's road trip will continue as they head out to face the Gryphons at 5:45 p.m. on February 5th. Trinity Christian's defense has only allowed 29.1 points per game this season, so the Warriors' offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Wakefield School, they will head out on the road to challenge the Yellow Jackets at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
