The Sherrard Tigers will head out on the road to face off against the Monmouth-Roseville Titans at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Sherrard has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
Sherrard stacked a seventh blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard two weeks ago. Couldn't have asked for a better start to 2024 than the 72-40 blowout they got on the road against Knoxville. Given Sherrard's advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 121st, while Knoxville is ranked 663rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, Monmouth-Roseville unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Wednesday. They fell to Riverdale 55-49.
Darrion Smith put forth a good effort for the losing side as he scored 11 points along with five rebounds and three steals. Another player making a difference was Nico Avendano, who scored seven points along with six rebounds.
Sherrard is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine contests, which provided a nice bump to their 13-2 record this season. As for Monmouth-Roseville, their defeat dropped their record down to 13-7.
Sherrard was able to grind out a solid victory over Monmouth-Roseville in their previous meeting back in February of 2023, winning 56-49. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Monmouth-Roseville's CJ Johnson, who scored 13 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. Now that he won't be playing on Friday, will it be that much easier for Sherrard to walk away with another win? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
