On Thursday, The Vela Sabercats got themselves on the board against the Juarez-Lincoln Huskies, but the Juarez-Lincoln Huskies never followed suit. They claimed a resounding 77-0 win over the Huskies on the road. The result was nothing new for Vela, who have now won five contests by 21 points or more so far this season.
Jonathan Flores was on fire: he rushed for 244 yards and five touchdowns on only 12 carries. Flores' longest rush was for an incredible 98 yards. Jamal Polley was another key contributor, rushing for 97 yards and three touchdowns on only seven carries.
Vela's win was their fourth straight on the road, which bumped their overall record up to 7-1. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 0-8 Juarez-Lincoln and 3-5 Rio Grande City (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 37.5% over those games). As for Juarez-Lincoln, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-8.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Vela will square off against Palmview at 7:30 p.m. on October 27th. Palmview will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings (they are ranked 1012th, while Vela is ranked 394th). As for Juarez-Lincoln, they will head out on the road to face off against Pharr-San Juan-Alamo North at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Pharr-San Juan-Alamo North will be coming into the matchup with an undefeated record on the line.
