The Cardinal Mooney Cardinals will stay at home for another game and welcome the Boardman Spartans at 7:00 p.m. on January 24th. Cardinal Mooney will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Ohio Rankings (they are ranked 381st, while Boardman is ranked 60th).
While it was all tied up 9-9 at halftime, Cardinal Mooney was not quite Roger Bacon's equal in the second half on Saturday. Cardinal Mooney was just a bucket shy of victory and fell 29-28 to Roger Bacon.
Meanwhile, it may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Boardman ultimately got the result they hoped for on Saturday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Canfield 63-60. The victory was familiar territory for Boardman who now have three in a row.
Boardman can attribute much of their success to Sarah Bero, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 13 rebounds, and Mackenzie Riccitelli, who dropped a double-double on 24 points and ten rebounds. That's the first time this season that Riccitelli pulled down eight or more rebounds. Another player making a difference was Samantha Duble, who scored five points along with six rebounds.
Cardinal Mooney's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 5-8. As for Boardman, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 11-4 record this season.
